I need to know in what cases and trimesters abortion is legal to be performed.

Roe v. Wade said:
(a) For the stage prior to approximately the end of the first trimester, the abortion decision and its effectuation must be left to the medical judgment of the pregnant woman’s attending physician.

(b) For the stage subsequent to approximately the end of the first trimester, the State, in promoting its interest in the health of the mother, may, if it chooses, regulate the abortion procedure in ways that are reasonably related to maternal health.

(c) For the stage subsequent to viability, the State in promoting its interest in the potentiality of human life [410 U.S. 113, 165] may, if it chooses, regulate, and even proscribe, abortion except where it is necessary, in appropriate medical judgment, for the preservation of the life or health of the mother.

But Webster v. Reproductive Health Services did away with this.

What exactly is the abortion debate about to you?

To me the abortion debate is about the definition of life. I have spoken to two very hreat scientists who both had EXTREMELY different views on abortion. Then I decided to ask them what EXACTLY was their definition of life. They both had very different opinions on what "constitutes" a life. They were both looking at it from a scientific view point, but from different angles.
The ant-choice person counted even the smallest cell as a life. The pro-choice person thought of a [human] life as anything that can viably live outside the mother’s womb on it’s own (with a standard of assistance obviously).
If a mother decided to deliver her foetus at 1 month it would not survive in anyway shape or form.

I’m very pro-individual rights, so to me it’s about preventing government intervention in a person’s private decision, and legislating morality based on religion.

I better question might be "How do we make birth-control more available to the underprivileged?" We’d get more bang-for-the-buck.

I have heard that the way an abortion is done depends on how far pregnant you are.

For example, the abortion process on someone that is 8 weeks pregnant would be completely different to a one on someone this 18 weeks pregnant.

I also heard that if you want an abortion after you are 24 weeks pregnant, you have to pay a lot of money to get it done.

How long does it take ? Do you have to stay in a hospital ? Does it hurt like giving birth does ?

I had an abortion at 6-7 weeks (my doc told me there was no chance to keep the child). They gave me a shot and I fell asleep, after 15 minutes – woke up. No pains, no post-abortion problems.

I think it depends on the organism a lot. Anyway, mini-abortions done by good docs are not painful. Cannot tell anything about "bigger" ones…

PRO-CHOICE
- abortion: don’t like it, don’t get one!
- even if you disagree with it, don’t try to take that choice from others.
- some people are not ready for kids [not financially or emotionally stable or have other issues in their life]
- forcing a woman who doesn’t want a baby to go through pregnancy is as bad as forcing a woman who wants a baby to get an abortion.
- pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion, many pro-choicers disagree with abortion, but understand that it’s a decision some woman need to make
- are pro-"lifers" also vegetarian, against the death penalty, and against war?
- the fetus cannot feel or think or have any idea about what’s going on.
- MAKING ABORTION ILLEGAL WILL NOT REDUCE IT. there will just be DIY coat hanger abortions and back-alley abortions. so the woman will die. would you rather it be safe and legal or women die? you choose.
- a woman should be able to control her body and what happens to it.
- will the pro-lifers help the woman during or after her pregnancy? will they pay for all her medical bills and child care fees for the next 18 years because SHE didn’t choose to have a baby, THEY did.
- saying "there is adoption" fixes nothing because there are tons of kids waiting to be adopted already and why bring a kid into the world that is going to be switched from home to home. a lot couples want to adopt the perfect baby as well.
- basically, pro-choice is not about people loving abortion. it’s about acknowledging that every woman needs to make a decision regarding her pregnancy and giving her options and choices. the choice of abortion, the choice of adoption, the choice of pregnancy, etc.

I’m writing an essay on abortion and need some Stats.
I don’t want stats from a website that favors one side of the issue, just the hard facts. Is there a gov’t website or census thing where they have abortion rates or something?

I am writting a persuasive paper in language arts. My topic is that there should a law against abortion, one that says they are illegal. I’ve had several miscarriages before that has made me scared of getting pregnant now. Just can’t bear to have another yet.
What about deliberate abortions? How many times can you do it?
I’ve never tried that, but I’ve heard of a woman who aborted 9 of her 12 pregnancies, so she only have 3 kids now.

I think you can have any amount of miscarriages/spontaneous abortions but I have heard you can only have so many surgical abortions before you can’t even get pregnant.

I have also had several miscarriages in the past and was weary of trying again after so many but I got thoroughly checked out for any physical reasons for the miscarriages. And started taking folic acid before I started trying again.

Then when I got pregnant I rested all I could, avoided anything too strenuous and took the day off work if I was feeling even a little under the weather. I’m 14 weeks now and sure it’s going to work this time.
