Do you support removing doctors rights not to give a woman an ABORTION?

December 182009

Our population is out of control. The more embryos that develop are more mouths to feed.

I support the Department of Health and Human Services proposed regulations to strengthen the existing laws of abortion and sterility. Doctors should be forced to perform these operations!

Yes, I do.

I think it should be up to the mother. Only the doctor should decide if the mother is incapable or it is life treaterning.

Yes, I am "pro-CHOICE!" That means that I support a woman’s right to chose the option that fits her situation best. I also support a doctor’s right to not offer a particular service based on his/her own beliefs.

To force either viewpoint on a doctor or their patient is, in my mind, irrational! There are times where an abortion is medically necessary (danger to the woman’s life), times where an abortion is a convenience (the woman opts for an abortion), and times where an abortion is improper patient care and a violation of medical ethics (not medically necessary and not requested as an elective procedure by the patient).

If the patient wants (or needs) an abortion, and the doctor will not perform the procedure … the patient can always change doctors!

IMHO … your point of view makes no sense!

You see this issue as part of your right to choose and expect to be allowed to make choices of your own freewill. So then should these doctors, especially if they have conflict in regard to the creed they took in which they promised to ‘do no harm’. This for some is a violation of that promise and it should be respected.

Just stop and think about this for a minute – How would you feel if you were forced to do something you believed in your heart was wrong and against your moral or perhaps spiritual beliefs, especially if that thing could for some perhaps be equated with something as serious as murder? There are people who will never do this and are willing to go to gaol for it – I know because they were going to try it in my country – but then where will the community you live in be? A doctor in gaol is useless to a community that is already struggling with lack of competent medical practioners.

    You’ve got to be kidding.

No doctor should be,"forced," to perform abortions.

The issue of abortion is most often a choice, the choice of the doctor to perform abortions should be considered, as much as a woman’s choice to have one.

The idea of forcing any physician to participate is nothing short of barbaric.

you are wrong all life is special and abortion should be a last resort, in cases of medical nessiety, rape, insest, molestation, ect, NOT a form of birth control, and therefore no one should be forced to proform that or any other procuder they feel is aginst their beliefs or what ever.

No, I do not support it. Doctors are sworn to the Hippocratic Oath and in my opinion if they perform an abortion, they are going against their word.
Here is a modern version of the Hippocratic Oath: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/doctors/oath_modern.html
Here are a few quotes from that article: "Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God."
The key phrase: "Above all, I must not play at God." <— Where does performing an abortion fit in there?
I have great respect for doctors who decide to stand up for what they morally believe in. Their hands are for healing, not for taking a life.
These doctors care more for their patients than making fast money.
    They should be applauded.

I’m Pro-choice. Here is why I am pro-choice. What happens if a woman is raped and gets pregnant? To force her to have that child is going right down the lines of torture….and damn anyone who disagrees.

I’ve asked myself this question many times. My girlfriend and I would very much like to have a child some day. But I also see your argument, the world is becoming overpopulated. The US can handle an over-population because of the amount of agriculture we can sustain, however other countries would not be able to do so because of not being able to provide enough food for their increasing populations. I know it sounds evil to a lot of people, but there has to be a time when you need to slllllloooooowwww doowwwwwn.

Feeding my family if I have a kid will not be a problem. I grew up hunting and growing food, and I am fortunate enough to live in an area which has some rather "cruel" ordinances regarding development (it’ll never happen). But for the rest of the world, I can see it becoming a huge problem.

Doctors should not be forced to perform these procedures. Pharmacists should not have the right to refuse to fill valid prescriptions, but forcing someone to perform a surgical procedure they do not want to can ultimately only hurt the patient. Parts of the "conscience" law should be repealed, but not that one.
