how come some vegetarians are against abortion?
December 182009
It just doesn’t make sense. Most vegetarians feel that animals have as much of a right to live as humans do, correct? so theniIf you are a vegetarian that DOES eat eggs, how can you be against abortion? eating an egg, is stopping a developing life. getting an abortion is stopping a developing life. So if you think animals are as substantial as humans are, you cannot be against abortion if you eat eggs, right?
you are right i am a vegitarian and i dont eat eggs people are always asking me why i dont eat eggs because they dont get it because they are not smart and dont care (about the animals)

The eggs you get from the market are unfertilized where as the eggs that abortion foes are concerned with are already fertilized. I imagined most people would be rather icked out by the idea of eating fertilized eggs. There is no inconsistency really.

then you could say the same thing to meat eaters that eat eggs that are pro-life too, right.
Veg*ns all have different thoughts on abortion, so none can really be grouped into being either pro-life or pro-choice.

You are so stupid. Lets start off with the fact that the eggs in the supermarket are unfertilized. It’s kinda like a human female having her period because she is getting rid of an unfertilized egg. Second of all, I eat eggs and i am against abortion, theres nothing wrong with that. 3rd of all, in most cases, vegetarians aren’t vegetarian because of the fact that they feel that animals have as much of a right to live as humans do.

The egg debate is a matter of exploitation. Keeping the hens locked away from the roosters is exploitation, though I wouldn’t call it cruelty, by your logic billions of women each day throw away babies out on their tampons.

I am pro-choice but I don’t eat eggs, there’s another mystery of life for you to ponder over whilst on your beanbag chair eating cheetos.

Actually, eggs that are sold as food isn’t fertilized. The egg can only be fertilized while in the hens body, so those eggs are no more of a developing life than a female period is. Makes perfect sense.

The eggs we eat are actually unfertilized; it’s really just the chicken’s menstrual cycle. We are not stopping a developing life by eating eggs.

Hi Erynn, Wrong in my opinion anyway. Who said to you that all vegetarians are against abortion? Chickens and other species are born with the eggs or the potential to have eggs already there. It is the act of fertilization that makes them an egg in the shell able to have a chick. Without that they would probably be flushed from their system. I won’t go into all the details on this site but I’m sure the majority of people will know what I am getting at. Having or getting an abortion is a whole different subject. Perhaps you would be better discussing your personal opinions on a more appropriate site. However I would research a little more if I were you. An egg is not an chicken as you or I know it until fertilisation when a shell has been formed and a chick in it.
All the best Rab

first of all the eggs you buy from the store are unfertilized which means you don’t stop anything’s life (common sense) and this question makes no sense at all.

They don’t have THAT much to do with each other. The eggs you eat are unfertilized, where as in the case of abortion, the female egg is already fertilized. So…yeah. I’m a vegetarian, against abortion, but Pro-Choice.

Chickens’ eggs are unfertilised. They can never become chicks.

Not all vegetarians are vegetarians for that reason.
But.. I eat eggs because I don’t like the idea on an animal being alive just to be killed later. The bird in the egg hasn’t even come to life yet. It’s a lot different.
I am pro-choice. I’m NOT pro abortion but I don’t think it’s ANYONE’s choice but the women in the position. It’s not fair to tell her what to do. I think there should be some boundaries though.

being a vegiterian has nothing to do with abortian. i think most vegetarians you know are just against it. and about the eggs- thats why there are more vegans than vegetarians. and i think people are against abortion becuse of what it really is. it tears every limb off of the babys body theres a lot to be against. its torture, just like factory farms, thats why i think most vegans/vegetarians are agaisnt abortion, its the same concept

Um, abortion and vegetarianism are totally different issues, for one thing.
Furthermore, eggs are unfertilized and eating them is no more killing a chicken than menstruating is having a miscarriage.

I think most people (vegetarians and omnivores) are against abortion.
P.S: the eggs that you eat aren’t fertilized
