Fact: The Bible never mentions the word "abortion."

I know that i dont believe in them for many reasons, but i need to know more, can you just throw random facts at me? i have to write a really long report on it.

Here’s a generic answer that I have written after debating with a few people here on YA. I usually tweak it to fit the question more specifically, but it will do for you since you are just looking for ideas.

Abortion is basically murder sanctioned by the government as a reasonable alternative to bearing the responsibility of an unwanted pregnancy.
I think the argument that, "we shouldn’t make abortion illegal because people are going to do it anyway." has a major fallacy.
Things like murder, assault, theft, sexual harassment, and driving drunk are all illegal and people still engage in these activities. Does that mean that we should legalize these things? No. Why? Because they impede on the rights of others. These laws are established to protect the rights of others. Why do we want to protect others rights? Because that is something that we value in our society. If people injure themselves doing illegal things, that is a chance they take. Desperation doesn’t justify murder, theft, or anything else that is illegal.
I know a lot of people who are involved in the pro-choice movement insist that fetuses are just a "clump of cells". That view is getting harder and harder to justify as technology continues to advance. However, many other pro-choicers agree that the fetus is alive and human, but a woman’s rights outweigh the rights of the child she carries within her. So, basically, abortion is justifiable killing. We label our future population as wanted and unwanted while they are in utero and exercise our "right" to selectively destroy the ones who are unwanted. The ONLY difference is that one is wanted and the other isn’t. If we used this same mentality towards orphans, we’d euthanize them like unwanted pets. Does that logic make sense? No, to me they are equal on the atrocity scale.
If a drunk driver strikes a vehicle that is carrying a pregnant women, that man/women is charged with drunken assault to a minor.
If we protect a baby in the womb of a mother who wants him/her then all fetuses/infants should be protected. We have a double standard. It’s like the legal system showing favoritism to a certain race , or any other group that we , humans, divide ourselves into. Americans have a history of trying their best to put an end to these kinds of injustices.
Why are our unborn children exempt? Because we, Americans, have put rights of choice before rights of life.

I have also heard pro-lifers accused of supporting forced surrogacy on women of unwanted pregnancies, like they did in the days of slavery. The things that the American culture forced upon the slaves were atrocious acts of inhumanity. To force anyone to do anything against their will is a direct attack on their freedoms.
I am concerned, however, that the government has seen fit to sanction the termination of life as an alternative . Lives are sacrificed so that older, more mature lives can escape the inconveniences that sometimes accompany the pleasures of a sexual lifestyle. In my opinion, our freedoms can only be exercised until they impede upon the freedoms of others. Women who become impregnated, by consequence of their actions, are not naive to the fact that pregnancy is a natural bi-product of intercourse. No one forces these women be sexually active.
Perhaps it sounds unreasonable to ask anyone to give up their right to sexual pleasure. We cannot force people to abstain from sex. That WOULD be an unreasonable infringement on people’s rights. I propose that other sexual acts that do not involve actual intercourse are all acceptable and reasonable alternatives to anyone who absolutely cannot bear the stress of a possible pregnancy. We should opt to choose our actions, not to eliminate our consequences. Life should have priority over choice.

Please do NOT give "facts" about abortion relevant to "God", or the bible. There is NO proof of "God", therefore your "facts" are fiction.

So… Why do people think abortion is wrong? Or worse, murder? Also, Why do you get into other peoples’ business? Please answer that. What I don’t understand is why people get so worked up over abortion. If you think abortion is wrong, just don’t have one!
Why do you feel the need to tell other people what to do with THEIR bodies? Why do you even CARE what other people do with their bodies and fetuses? They have a right to do whatever they want. The number of abortions has steadily increased each year since abortion was made legal in 1973…until 1990. Oddly, there have been slight decreases of abortion each year since 1990. Do you think this has anything to do with the availability of the internet to the masses, where they can go to see the REAL, unwhitewashed facts about abortion? Up until then, just like everything else in our society, mothers in tough situations were basically at the mercy of the mainstream media and abortion “clinics” who were trusted to give unbiased information to women, even though the clinic was VERY financially motivated to make sure that the mother went through with the abortion? I forgot to mention that births to unwed mothers have reached an all-time high, so it’s not sex ed and birth control availability that have reduced unplanned pregnancies.

And, most women are under the impression that facilities like "Planned Parenthood" are the place to go for advice on what to do in an unplanned pregnancy, falsely believing that they will get thorough, unbiased information about all of their options. This is not the case. PP is interested in the mother choosing abortion because it makes them money. PP does everything it can to close down Crisis Pregnancy Clinics who counsel mothers on ALL of their options.

There are now more Crisis Pregnancy Centers than Abortion "clinics" in the U.S. today. Crisis Pregnancy Centers provide free baby clothes, diapers, formula, OTC pregnancy tests. They also help women find resources for adoption, pregnant mother care, government help, parenting classes, and a multitude of other things to help mothers get through pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. Some even have families who will take in pregnant mothers who have nowhere to live.
But doesn’t it stand to reason that the more acceptable abortion becomes, the more justified fathers will feel in abandoning their children? After all, why shouldn’t fathers say "she could’ve just aborted ‘it’ and saved me all this trouble. Why should I not have the ‘right to choose’ too, just because I’m a male?"
levade0: Your statement is not entirely accurate. Yes, men have the option of leaving, but by law, they must financially support their child, even if "they did not want it". They have NO choice in the matter, and even if they are not caught as deadbeat dads, they do constantly have to run and hide.
Women do, however, have several options when it comes to having to care for their offspring; they can kill the baby; they can have the baby and give it up for adoption; they can take their newborn to any hospital or firestation and drop their baby off and leave forever, no questions asked; or they can keep and care for the child. Quite an array of options, when compared with the options for men.

Hey guys so i’m in a government class and i need to write a speech on an abortion bill that we are planning on debating in a mock session. the bill basically states that abortions are officially illegal after the first trimester, giving a woman 3 months to make up her mind on what she wants to do. its focusing more on rape/incest victims rather than women who couldnt keep their panties on. edit: i only said "women who cant keep their panties on" because my best friend’s older sister has had around 7 abortions since she was 17 just because she hates condoms and forgets to take her birth control. its revolting to me. i understand that men are at fault as well.

This is my stance on abortion….if you don’t agree with it, don’t have one. Simple fix. Stay away from my uterus and body. Keep abortion legal for all circumstances in the first trimester, do not insert your judgment into my life.

I would like to know some facts about abortions. Im against it but I still want to know general facts.

i can only speak for michigan, and here yes you can get an abortion done if you’re under 18. you have to do what is called a judicial bypass, which means that you go in front of a judge and explain why you need an abortion and that you understand the procedure and the risks associated with it. at the clinic i worked at, we made this very easy, the patient would make an appointment with us and we would go over everything and set them up with a lawyer at no cost to them. the judge nearly always grants the girl with a judicial bypass certificate which waives parental consent. an abortion in the state of michigan is legal until 24 weeks. the only states that perform them further are kansas and georgia, and each of those states have one or two clinics that will go up to 26 weeks.

the abortion procedure itself takes approximately 3 minutes if the patient is in the first trimester (up to 13 weeks and 5 days). the risk associated with abortion is much less than the risks of carrying a pregnancy to term and going through childbirth. the most common complications include bleeding, infection, and a small hole in the uterus (which almost never happens, and when it does it generally heals itself). what to expect during the procedure- cramps. like bad period cramps for a couple minutes. afterwards, cramps can continue as the uterus shrinks down to it’s normal not pregnant size, and most people experience irregular bleeding for 4-6 weeks (this happens after giving birth too, it’s the hormones trying to get back to normal). the no-no’s for someone who just had an abortion are: swimming, tampons, vaginal intercourse, douching, drinking, asprin products, and strenuous workouts or standing continuously for 4+ hours without a break. these things should be avoided for 2 weeks after the procedure.

as for costs, it depends on where you go, how far into the pregnancy you are, and if your insurance covers it. a lot of insurance plans do have abortion as a benefit, at least a first trimester abortion. clinics that are NAF affiliated (national abortion federation) do have special funding available to low income patients. patients who qualify based on their household income and need can have as much as 75% of their costs paid for by NAF. these clinics that have this funding available are generally the best of the best and must pass extensive inspection and testing to be able to offer it. for example, the clinic that i used to work for uses hospital standards as their bottom line- in every single respect they at least meet hospital standards, and in most cases they exceed hospital standards. there are many other clinics that do the same, but unfortunately the few bad ones ruin the reputation of all clinics in a way. a big thing that someone seeking this service should keep in mind is- you get what you pay for!! the "cheap" clinic (that does not get this funding) who charges $100 or so for an abortion is one to stay away from! an abortion is surgery, and quality care costs more than that!

what someone should look for when choosing a clinic:
-how do they talk to you on the phone? are they nice and caring and willing to talk to you for 30 minutes or are they rude and just try to rush you? do they answer all of your questions?
-ask if you can check out the facility beforehand. if they seem leery about it, that is not a good sign.
-do they offer counseling, to make sure that you are 100% sure of your decision, or do they just want you in there to take your money? do they turn people away if they’re not sure?
-ask about their doctors! are the doctors licensed? has their license ever been suspended for any reason? what kind of doctor are they and where did they go to school? how long have they been performing abortions?
-ask about aftercare. does the clinic have a follow up exam? do they call you the day after to check up on you? do they have an emergency phone number where you can reach the doctor 24/7?

Oh wait. No one is forced to have them are they? Us liberals just want the choice to be there for people who may find themselves in the unfortunate situation where they need an abortion.
In fact, us liberals don’t "love" abortion. We have no agenda to ensure that as many abortions take place as possible. An abortion means that prior more preferable means of birth control have failed, and an abortion should be prevented at all costs, it’s a last resort.

Thank you for your answers. I believe a baby’s life begins at conception. A baby has a beating heart at 18 days after fertilization and brain waves at six weeks after fertilization! I just found that out, isn’t it amazing? Life is such a wonderful gift, I thank God for every new born that comes into this world.

When I was pregnant with my son, I got a sonogram at 5weeks and it show an egg sack moving and in a small ring was my son . You have to think about: sperm and eggs is alive, right? And when the join they are still alive! All life is precious and having an abortion would kill potentially good person that could change the world. Believe me, I wanted to end my pregnacy because I was afraid, but I look at my beautiful son now and I cannot imagine my life without.
