Should we expect pressure from Europe to change our abortion laws?

Wasn’t one of the guarantees about the Lisbon treaty that they would stay out of our business over abortion? What is the point in giving us a "guarantee" when they can challenge the country over the law later on?

No. Any laws can be tested in the European court.
People seem to think that abortion is a religious issue – it’s not. It’s a moral and legal issue, that has nothing to do with ‘being ruled’ by the catholic church. Maybe we Irish just have a problem with destroying human life.

Should there be laws against people who support abortion?

December 112009

Obviously abortion should be made illegal at the first place but there should also be laws against people who support this barbaric practice. It’s just another form of human butchery.

To carriewpd

Yes, peope who carry out abortion should be charged as murderers. (They are even worse than normal murderers because they are killing little babies).

If you can convince the U.S. Supreme Court that a law like this is constitutional (after they overturn Roe v Wade), then more power to you. But this would most likely violate Free Speech in the 1st Amendment, so no, no law like this will EVER exist.

Why are sexists always trying to pass parental consent abortion laws?

December 32009

To keep perverts like you away from my children ! My child’s life is none of your DAMN BUSINESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since abortion has been brought up today, how do you proponents of abortion reconcile the laws that charge ?

December 12009

a person who murdered a pregnant woman with two murders? So can you still say abortion isn’t murder of the unborn?

Please explain.

There are multiple conflicts in our laws. You can’t use one to argue for or against another, or you will drive yourself insane. We tell 18 year olds that they are not old enough to decide whether to drink alcoholic beverages or not, but 18 year olds are old enough to go to war and decide who to kill. We say that you are not old enough to decide whether you want to have sex or not until you are 16, but if you are 14 and murder someone, we say that you are old enough to have decided right from wrong. We tell you that you are not old enough to decide whether to have sex if you are 15, but if you have sex and get pregnant at 15, you are considered an adult capable of making decisions that maintain your infant’s safety and well being. Confused yet?

Does anyone know a reliable unbiased sight about the current laws and court decisions regarding abortion?

November 282009

I am doing a project on abortion and I need to talk about current laws and court decisions. I would like the site to be reliable and I’m having trouble finding it myself.
I am interested in laws concerning the United States. Especailly Ohio

Laws vary from place to place. Some countries ban abortion, while other allow it. In the U.S., the states regulate it, and make the laws about things such as waiting periods, perental consent for minors, and so on. The only thing they cannot do is ban it.

For court cases, there have been many cases brought to the U.S. Supreme Court. Roe v. Wade was the big one, and others include Webster v. Reproductive Health Services, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Stenberg v. Carhart, and Gonzales v. Carhart to name a few.

If Obama killed Abortion laws would republicans respect him more?

Even if he did that (which he won’t and can’t…), he’d still be black, so, No…..

Is it necessary to oppose laws banning abortion in order to be considered pro-life?

November 242009

Can’t it be that a pro-life supports legalization of abortion since laws banning it won’t actually do any good, instead just take this practice underground and cause serious problems to those wishing for an abortion due to valid/concrete reasons?

Or would that make him pro-choice?

Pro-life essentially translates to ‘anti-choice’.

Pro-choice translates precisely to ‘for choice’.

You support choice, so you are pro-choice. You can be pro-choice while not agreeing with abortion. Many people oppose abortion on various grounds including personal beliefs and religion, but they support a woman’s choice because they don’t like to see the suffering of women and children.

In Pennsylvania are there any laws to have an abortion display taken down?

November 222009

I live in Pennsylvania and every time i go to work i pass this display. It’s not pictures or anything graphic. It’s 1000 wooden crosses covering the ground with a plastic sign that says 1 cross for each of the 1000 abortions done daily. Now i’m against abortion under certain circumstances. I feel it’s something that should be privatley dealt with and is no one’s business. Please tell me there’s a law that if alot of people complain, a display can be taken down. I just think it’s rude and not something i should be forced to look at while i’m sitting at a redlight going to work.
It’s mostly on churches land. There’s a few churches in the area that they get put on. It rotates roughly every month. 2 months ago it was put in a field right next to my parents house, i’m not sure who’s land it is.

It depends on whose land it’s on. If it’s on public land on the roadway, your state will have laws that apply to it, either regarding roadside memorials (illegal in most states) or litter.

I want your opinion on abortion laws, please be serious.?

November 132009

Okay, there are two sides to every story and i want your opinion. If abortion is illegal again what could this do to the rest of our government? People will still have abortions, just like they still do illegal drugs, and it won’t be nearly as safe. There will even be the girls who attempt suicide just because they feel they have no other choice. Also, what else could they regulate in our personal lives? The birth experience has been hospitalized and medicalized, what prevents people from attempting to imprison us with laws during any suspected pregnancy? First laws to curtail alcohol use (pregnancy tests at bars?), then slowly they could invade our entire lives with laws "meant for the good of the baby" (special stickers on your drivers license to keep you from buying cigarettes). If abortion is illegalized how long do you think it will take for doctors to be required to "investigate" miscarriages to see if it was a self-abortion? How far will religious extremists go?
just remember there was a time when the government wanted birth control to be illegal. And nothing happens overnight. If we can put people away who are "a danger to themselves", how long will it take before we can institutionalize people who might not make the best pregnant mother?

Personally, I’m against abortion. I think it’s murder.

However, I feel the Supreme Court should uphold Roe v. Wade, because we have the technology, we know how to do it, and it’s going to go on anyway.

If abortion is made illegal, it’s just going to go on, unregulated, in back alley clinics. This is dangerous to those seeking abortions. You can’t regulate an illegal industry, therefore people who aren’t trained are going to be giving abortions, leaving some women unable to have children in the future, or even worse, dead from botched abortions or infection.

I think we need to have honest discussions with today’s youth about sex, birth control, abortion and abstinence. Further, I would ask and pray that people think before they have sex, that they don’t do it if they aren’t ready to accept the consequences of unplanned pregnancy (and/or STDs), that they refrain from sex until they know how to protect themselves, and if anyone is ever faced with the choice of whether to have a baby or abort it, that they choose life.

And ladies… I’m sorry to say it’s up to us to protect ourselves. It’s unfair that we are the ones who have to be pregnant for nine months, that we have to make the decision as to whether or not to have the child, and that if we choose to have the child, we are ultimately the ones who have to bear the burden of raising the child and providing for it financially. So, please, think. Us women need to protect ourselves and our children; whether they are in vitro, already born, or just a twinkle in our eyes.
