How can people say that abortion is voluntary for people who are in poverty and are financially cornered, especially when minorities are more likely to have abortions than white people in America? How can you justify the racial disparity here? Are minorities intrinsically different in some way that makes them more inclined to have abortions? Of course not. So if the decision to have the procedure was really voluntary and not undully influenced, then shouldn’t the abortion statistics be the same for all races in the country?

(links in a previous question)

Abortion is voluntary, most women choose it because they feel it is the best option given their circumstances, such as being impoverished, but this still doesn’t make it a forced procedure. They could choose to continue the pregnancy, but that’s not what is for the best. I work everyday because I have bills to pay, but you wouldn’t say I was being forced, it’s taking care of my responsibilities.

The racial disparity could be explained by the fact some races live in communities that have their own distinct culture and due to this culture they face more unwanted pregnancies and abortion is the norm. For example, in the ghetto, a black woman might not practice safe sex because she went to an under-funded school without a good sex education program, so she is more likely to get pregnant, and then, realizing her situation, more likely to choose abortion. She’s more likely to have friends who have been through what she is going through and will support her through it. The white teenager in the suburbs is likely the first in her community to experience an unwanted pregnancy and doesn’t have the support group to help her make the best choice. There’s much more to it and it’s far more complicated than I have explained, but there are many influences that explain the abortion stats across different ethnicities.

11 points will be rewared to the person who gives me the information i want

This is a hrd one but here it goes… Start with this site: www.abort73.com/abortion_facts/us_abortion_statistics
It has some pretty good statistics… And statistics for reasons people get an abortion can be found here: www.johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/abreasons.html

I personally had one done when I was 19, I had been in a Car accident that year and was on a lot of meds, going to physical therapy for almost 2 years, and for my own health, and the Great possibility that my 7 week old embryo could have Serious physical or mental damage due to several meds, X rays, and MRIs, I decided it was what was best, even though it broke my heart… But 6 years later I have a Planned, Beautiful Healthy baby girl, who is my world.

BTW I had no Idea I was pregnant until I was 6 weeks in Obviously it was unplanned, which is why I was taking meds, etc.

Wow, I can’t believe all these women are being so bitchy about it, yea you could do the research yourself but half the questions that get asked on this site are questions that people could research themselves so whats the difference?! Anyway, I am 9 weeks pregnant and although abortion is not a path I would chose to take, I am pro-choice. It’s not up to me or anyone else to decide a women’s path or future, it’s her own choice. It’s not anyone’s baby but hers. So here’s a couple links to get you started. Good Luck on your paper!

What are the statistics and why are foetuses not protected under human rights (genetically they are human…) they may not have functionality but we wouldn’t dream of denying disabled people human rights?
No, a foetus IS human, you can debate when life begins but you can NOT dispute the species of a cell, be it a plant cell or an animal cell or more specifically a human cell.

Abortion can be explained as discrimination and violence against a human based upon the belief that they are not a person… same as slavery, historical sexism and general bigotry but we disagree with those and reject them as a society…
@ the rude answer, I live in the UK, I was born here and was wondering why I didn’t have the right to life before I was born… idiot… pshh.
@Jane: ‘comparing foetuses to black people’ -I didn’t: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery – It existed in history and exists today. "An institution or social practice of owning human beings as property" -so dehumanising humans. I never said anything about people of any particular race… you did…

Here are the statistics you aked about there dated 2006,that’ss the most resent I could find. The total number of abortions was 193,700, compared with 186,400 in 2005, a rise of 3.9% the age-standardised abortion rate was 18.3 per 1,000 resident women aged 15-44, compared with 17.8 in 2005. The abortion rate was highest at 35 per 1,000, for women age 19. The under-16 abortion rate was 3.9 and the under-18 rate was 18.2 per 1,000 women, both higher than in 2005. 87% of abortions were funded by the NHS; of these, just over half (55%) took place in the independent sector under NHS contract. 89% of abortions were carried out at under 13 weeks gestation; 68% were at under 10 weeks. Medical abortions accounted for 30% of the total compared with 24% in 2005. 2,000 abortions (1%) were under ground E, risk that the child would be born handicapped. http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Publicationsandstatistics/Publications/PublicationsStatistics/DH_075697

Do you agree or disagree? Statistics from around the world are suggesting that it sex-selection is playing a role in many abortions.

Likewise, if a parent desires grandchildren, is it ethical to utilize abortion to avoid giving birth to homosexual children (assuming a "gay gene" can be determined by early testing of the fetus).

I’m not asking if such abortions are wise or something you would personally choose. I’m asking if you think that abortion should always be legal and any questions of ethics kept individual and private.

Most black-and-white views are extremist and therefore have little to recommend them.

A first-term abortion is of no significance; a third-term abortion is an entirely different matter.

But I will never accept the misuse of laws, whose power ultimately derives from the point of a gun, applying to an individual’s body. The government does not own us, nor does the ‘majority’.

Liberals are 100 times as likely to aid and abed a known fugitive if said fugitive were an illegal immigrant.

I had a miscarriage in Sept and have been TTC ever since. What is the % that I will have another. Is it the same statistic for an abortion? I have a friend who has had 2 abortions and is now currentyl 14wks pregnant with plans on keeping it, what are her chances of this going full term. Please inculde your sources. Thankyou in advance to all!!.
WhOOOoooosshhh ~BABY DUST!!! to ALL~

There is an increased risk for a second miscarriage – I’m not 100% on the numbers but I think it is only like 20% ish. I’m sure a google search could give you an exact. If you are concerned about another loss, as soon as you confirm you are pregnant, call your OBGYN and schedule a vaginal ultrasound to check for a heart beat. They should be able to see you sooner than the standard 8 or 9 week first visit. Mine always did. Once you see that little heart beating your odd of miscarrying are significantly diminished.

Good luck to you!

http://www.nrlc.org/news/2005/NRL10/NewStudy.html

from this study–

There were a number of responses women gave to the question as to what was "the most important reason" they had their abortions: they were "not ready for a(nother) child/timing is wrong," cited by 25%; they "can’t afford a baby now," cited by 23%; feelings that they had "completed my childbearing/have other people depending on me/children are grown," cited by 19%; and "having relationship problems/don’t want to be a single mother" was cited by 8%.

An additional 7% identified not feeling "mature enough to raise a(nother) child/feel too young," while 4% cited their view that the child "would interfere with education or career plans."

Notably, only 4% cited a "physical problem with my health" as the main factor in their abortions, while 3% identified "possible problems affecting the health of the fetus" as the most important reason behind their decisions.
