Abortion is voluntary, most women choose it because they feel it is the best option given their circumstances, such as being impoverished, but this still doesn’t make it a forced procedure. They could choose to continue the pregnancy, but that’s not what is for the best. I work everyday because I have bills to pay, but you wouldn’t say I was being forced, it’s taking care of my responsibilities.

The racial disparity could be explained by the fact some races live in communities that have their own distinct culture and due to this culture they face more unwanted pregnancies and abortion is the norm. For example, in the ghetto, a black woman might not practice safe sex because she went to an under-funded school without a good sex education program, so she is more likely to get pregnant, and then, realizing her situation, more likely to choose abortion. She’s more likely to have friends who have been through what she is going through and will support her through it. The white teenager in the suburbs is likely the first in her community to experience an unwanted pregnancy and doesn’t have the support group to help her make the best choice. There’s much more to it and it’s far more complicated than I have explained, but there are many influences that explain the abortion stats across different ethnicities.

I personally had one done when I was 19, I had been in a Car accident that year and was on a lot of meds, going to physical therapy for almost 2 years, and for my own health, and the Great possibility that my 7 week old embryo could have Serious physical or mental damage due to several meds, X rays, and MRIs, I decided it was what was best, even though it broke my heart… But 6 years later I have a Planned, Beautiful Healthy baby girl, who is my world.

BTW I had no Idea I was pregnant until I was 6 weeks in Obviously it was unplanned, which is why I was taking meds, etc.

The total number of abortions was 193,700, compared with 186,400 in 2005, a rise of 3.9% the age-standardised abortion rate was 18.3 per 1,000 resident women aged 15-44, compared with 17.8 in 2005. The abortion rate was highest at 35 per 1,000, for women age 19. The under-16 abortion rate was 3.9 and the under-18 rate was 18.2 per 1,000 women, both higher than in 2005. 87% of abortions were funded by the NHS; of these, just over half (55%) took place in the independent sector under NHS contract. 89% of abortions were carried out at under 13 weeks gestation; 68% were at under 10 weeks. Likewise, if a parent desires grandchildren, is it ethical to utilize abortion to avoid giving birth to homosexual children (assuming a "gay gene" can be determined by early testing of the fetus).

I’m not asking if such abortions are wise or something you would personally choose. I’m asking if you think that abortion should always be legal and any questions of ethics kept individual and private.

Most black-and-white views are extremist and therefore have little to recommend them.

There were a number of responses women gave to the question as to what was "the most important reason" they had their abortions: they were "not ready for a(nother) child/timing is wrong," cited by 25%; they "can’t afford a baby now," cited by 23%; feelings that they had "completed my childbearing/have other people depending on me/children are grown," cited by 19%; and "having relationship problems/don’t want to be a single mother" was cited by 8%.

An additional 7% identified not feeling "mature enough to raise a(nother) child/feel too young," while 4% cited their view that the child "would interfere with education or career plans."

Notably, only 4% cited a "physical problem with my health" as the main factor in their abortions, while 3% identified "possible problems affecting the health of the fetus" as the most important reason behind their decisions.
